Parents with Emetophobia
Your child is sick. You have your significant other take care of the child instead. You begin to feel guilty as you're still worrying.
It's all okay. You're not selfish. You aren't exaggerating. You are a great parent, but with just a fear. It's not your fault.
Kids are great, but, we all know one thing. They get sick. A LOT. That can be really hard on an emetophobic parent. It can be hard on your kid, too.
You just want to be there for your child when they're sick.
You can't overcome emetophobia overnight. Emetophobia is curable, but it will take time, patience, and determination. You also have to be 100% willing to overcome your fears. Remember, you will be doing all the work with overcoming your fear. Not your therapist or medication.
If your kid asks why you run away when they get sick, say something like, "your dad (or mom) has an easier time handling illnesses than me" or "my doctor doesn't want me to get whatever virus you have".
Or you can just tell them the whole truth, but be careful. Emetophobia can rub off of you and onto your kids.
