Nausea and Vomiting

Often, emetophobics experience nausea because of their anxiety. That doesn't mean the nausea isn't real. It's still there, and it's still scary. Here are some nausea and vomiting relief strategies for when you aren't feeling the best.

1. Acupressure

Some scientists believe that if you put pressure between the 2 tendons in your arm, it can relieve some nausea.

Find the correct place to apply pressure. Don't press too hard!

2. Medication

There are lots of great over-the-counter medications out there that are great relievers for nausea and vomiting. Although if you are pregnant, under 18, have had health issues in the past, then you need to consult your doctor before trying these medications. Popular medications include Zofran, Atarax, Meclizine, and Dramamine. A cool thing with Atarax is that it's used to treat both nausea AND anxiety!

4. Relaxation and taking your mind off of it

Obviously, you'll feel much worse if you're tensing up and trying to figure out the worst case scenario. Try laying in bed with a fan blowing on you, putting a cool cloth to your head, reading a book, watching a movie, taking a nap, etc.

If you believe your nausea and vomiting are from your anxiety, seek treatment for your anxiety. If you believe your nausea and vomiting is from a physical illness, then seek treatment for that physical illness.
